Hello Hampshire County. My name is Terry Craver I am running for Commissioner of Hampshire County. I moved to Hampshire County in 1968 and attended Hampshire High, graduating in 1972 .I became an FFA State Farmer, joined the Navy after graduating from High School. People have asked why I am running. The only answer I can give is I felt called to run to stand up for the people of Hampshire County to try to stop the government intrusion into our lives and the erosion of our Liberties and Freedoms. I will be your full time Commissioner, hopefully with an office so I can be more accessible to the citizens. I understand I work for the Citizens of Hampshire County and honor your wishes, your cares and concerns about the County.

 

Under my leadership of We the People of Hampshire County, in 2011 we gave US Constitutions to the 8th through 12th grade students the first year and the 8th  grade students every year afterward until Superintendent Cook kept them in his office and wouldn't hand them out. I have studied the US and West Virginia Constitutions and know it’s about “WE the PEOPLE” not we the government. When you know the intent of our founders in writing, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution you understand that they left the power with the People and our local governments through the limited power granted to the Federal Government in Article 1 Section 8 and the Ninth and Tenth amendments. When you elect Commissioners that know and understand this you begin to stop the over reach of the government. I believe in the Penny Plan where government CUTS one penny out of every dollar spent to save tax payers money.  I will always listen to the People and work hard to protect YOUR RIGHTS.  

 

I am the only candidate running that has had three Gun Rights meetings, a Gun Rights rally, and written a resolution to stop any Federal gun laws in Hampshire. I worked with others in the state to form a coalition of grassroots and State Legislators in West Virginia to get Common Core repeal bills before the Legislature. I stood with others to stop Zoning in Hampshire County which violates your Property Rights and stood for Religious Freedom. 

 

The VFW and American Legions do a lot to help Veterans but you can’t have too much help for those who have given so much to protect freedom and so I reached out to some others and we started the Hampshire County Veterans Foundation. In the beginning, the Foundation helped Veterans needing assistance in Hampshire county only. As the years have passed, we have expanded our service to seven counties because the need is so great. All proceeds raised stay local to help Veterans in Hampshire, Mineral, Grant, Hardy, Morgan counties in WV and Allegheny county in MD., and Frederick county in VA.  

The small businesses in Hampshire County are under a heavy burden because we don’t have any major industry here for a number of reasons. One of those is West Virginia ranked is 50th in the nation for reliable high speed internet and far behind the new standards put out by the FCC. My top priority is 'Working Together for a Better Hampshire County'.  

I have already reached out to some other people, some already in Office and others that are candidates running for Office. My hope is for us to all work together. To have townhall meetings throughout the county two to three times a year. To better understand the concerns of the citizens of Hampshire county. I feel elected officials need to hear from the people not only for concerns but also their suggestions of how to resolve issues.
